With over 850,000 active podcasts available in 2022, the content is endless – you might even have a coworker or college friend with a show of their own. Here’s a roundup of a few favorite podcasts to stream right now so you can skip the shuffle.
Morbid
The current obsession with true crime is something of a psychological phenomenon, with true crime podcasts regularly dominating the charts. One of said popular shows is Morbid, hosted by aunt and niece duo (though they typically refer to each other as sisters) Alaina and Ash. The pair’s personal connection and innate ability to provide lighthearted moments while respecting sensitive content makes for an informative, entertaining, and bone-chilling hour of true crime content, every single episode. Alaina’s career as an autopsy technician allows for her unique perspective on each case covered, and takes this podcast to an realm where others just can’t compare.
The Moth
The Moth might be the most incomparable podcast on this lineup, considering it’s completely curated by the public. Brought to us by a nonprofit organization of the same name, The Moth exists to honor the art of storytelling. The weekly podcast consists of stories told at The Moth’s live shows, based in New York City. If you love learning about the weird and wonderful moments of everyday life, this is the show for you.
Sounds Like A Cult
If it walks like a cult and talks like a cult then it must be…. Writer duo Amanda Montell and Isabela Medina-Mate launched Sounds Like A Cult to explore “zeitgeisty” groups that may or may not be a little cult-ish. In just a few dozen episodes, the hosts have covered cultural phenomena like SoulCycle, multi-level marketing, and flat-earthers, all while accumulating a cult-like following of their own. This show is bound to leave you wondering if any of your favorite fan bases might sound like a cult, too.
Why Won’t You Date Me?
Stand-up comedian Nicole Byer brings next-level humor to the woes of being perpetually single, as she proclaims herself to be. Fans of Netflix’s Nailed It!, also hosted by Byer, will be thrilled to hear her signature comedic voice lend itself to a raunchier podcast show. Regularly raunchy and consistently hilarious, Byer often invites other comedians on to maintain variety and keep her audience in stitches.
SmartLess
What’s better than a Jason Bateman movie? His weekly podcast alongside Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. This fan-favorite team hosts a conversational show with weekly guests like Jennifer Aniston, Kamala Harris, and Paul McCartney, creating endless interest for celebrity and pop culture lovers. In a fun twist, the celebrity guest is pre-selected by one host and revealed to the other two during the show. The element of surprise lends itself to truly authentic and on-the-fly conversation.
Low-rise bottoms inherently target a common insecurity, as they provide zero coverage for the stomach area. Though the resurgence of low-rise may seem daunting, the last few years have armed us with something that the 90’s and early aughts never had. The body positivity movement has exploded in recent years, with more and more women seemingly giving the finger to previous beauty standards and rocking whatever they want, however they want, and whenever they want. You don’t have to have the stomach of a 90’s runway model to rock the trends you love.
However, if you’re not quite ready to bare your *entire* midriff this summer, don’t worry. The low-rise trend is back, but it doesn’t have to be a Y2K carbon copy. Low-rise trousers have been spotted on both the runway and the streets with styling that ranges far beyond the traditional baby tee, two-inch rise jeans combo.
Whether you love it or hate it, low-rise is having another moment in the sun. Don’t be afraid to give this revitalized trend a shot – the 2022 version might be just what your wardrobe is missing.
